New Paragraph
For the past eight years, thanks to the support of our donors, The Chelly Foundation has been improving the lives of children in rural villages in Cambodia. We have a wonderful new announcement to make: we are now also working in Jaipur, India, to improve childrens' lives. Please read our 2023 Annual Holiday Letter to see what has been accomplished this past year. Thank you!
The core mission of The Chelly Foundation is to provide educational opportunities to the children of the Chum Kiri District in Kampot Province, in southern Cambodia. In 2015, we began construction of The Chelly Library, the first free-standing library at a public high school in Kampot Province. In 2022, we built The Chelly School, a new school building for hundreds of first through fifth graders to attend, replacing a condemned structure. Through the years, in the village of Snay Anh Chet and surrounding hamlets we have supported the teaching of free English classes, the giving away of bicycles, providing "bread" days at school for young children who go without breakfast in the mornings, and we have built sanitation facilities and water stations serving thousands of children at local area schools. Our various activities in Chum Kiri are on display on the pages of this website, as well as on Facebook.
Also since 2015, we have been sponsoring highly talented local high school students from the poorest families in Chum Kiri to become Chelly Scholars. Our scholarship program provides for a four-year scholarship at one of the top universities in Cambodia, including the University of Cambodia and the Royal University of Phnom Penh. To date, we have sponsored 27 Chelly Scholars, with eighteen of our scholars now having graduated with university degrees. For every student in the scholarship program, they will be the first in their family to graduate from college. We are transforming lives and making dreams come true.
